Obama family combines politics and cartoons

In celebration of Independence Day, the Obama family released an animated series with Netflix called “We The People” to teach kids about civics through songs and poems.

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed their latest entertainment project under their Higher Ground Productions for a fun new Netflix series. The Obama family formed the HigherGround Productions company in 2018, working on several entertainment projects, with the next one breaking into animation.

The animated series “We The People” will help educate kids on civic issues in a fun format with different animation styles for each episode, including educational songs. The animated series will be accompanied by lesson-teaching songs by artists including H.E.R., Adam Lambert, Cordae, Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (from “Frozen”), Daveed Diggs (from Hamilton), Brittany Howard, Lin-Manuel Miranda (from Hamilton and “In theHeights”), Bebe Rexha, Brandi Carlile, KYLE, Andra Day, and Janelle Monáe.

One special participant of this project is the first national youth poet laureate, Amanda Gorman, who will be performing original songs. The artists will be performing original songs and compositions that will soundtrack each narrative.

The animated series surrounding civic issues will cover themes including voting, advocating for racial equality, immigration, taxes, federal and state laws, the Constitution, inalienable rights, and the civil rights movements. The “We The People” series is available to watch on Netflix now.
