Impact Of Mother’s Attitude On Child Development

Undoubtedly one of the most important roles a woman ever plays in life is that of a mother. A mother’s relationship with their child in their early developing and growing years is incredibly crucial.

How a child develops is basically attributed to the role of the mother in the child’s life. The mother is at this age the leading presence in their lives.  She plays multiple roles in their kids’ development.

She is the teacher who is a part of all aspects of her child’s development – be it emotional, social, physical, or cognitive. How do mothers influence a child’s development and growth?

A child’s brain is still being formed during the first five years of their life. The child is particularly receptive to human contact at this stage. The child’s future will be defined by how the parents, especially the mother, interact and engage with them in various phases of their development.

Positive and responsive parenting builds a strong foundation for the child and maximizes his developmental outcomes. The child is dependent on the mother for everything – comfort, warmth, security, attention, nourishment, and most important of all, love and affection.

A mother’s journey can be likened to a roller coaster ride. It is filled with moments of joy, pride, a few scares, and various other emotions. The child will look up to mothers for advice and guidance. Some ways in which the mindset of mothers influences a child’s development and how mothers can help with these methods.

Emotional Bonding

As the mother of the child you have given birth to, your relationship with your baby starts from the womb. You are the first link between emotional bonding and attachment a child feels.

The baby will learn a lot about understanding social and emotional settings through the way you bond with them in their earliest years. Ensure that you respond to their needs and take care of them as soon as possible regardless of whether they seem important to you or not.

Positive Attitude

When you deal with problems in positive ways, you show and teach your child to be positive too in the face of hardships and problems. They will be encouraged to learn from mistakes, deal with problems positively, overcome them, and never give up. Children who see their mothers take on problems head-on and come through the other side still positive and happy tend to be more comfortable when placed in challenging situations themselves.

Teaching Trust And Honesty

Children who grow up in an atmosphere of trust and security will grow into confident, trustworthy, and emotionally secure adults. Never lie to your children by teaching them the importance of always being truthful, no matter the consequences.

Being supportive and encouraging them to do better will make the connection between you and your child healthier and stronger. Children who see their mothers lying to get out of sticky situations or just, in general, are at a higher risk of developing aggressive and antisocial behavior problems.

Teaching Discipline

Build good habits and regular routines early in a child’s life. Following a routine, you will show and teach your child the importance of discipline in life. Having a routine for your child will help them develop self-discipline and will also give them a sense of security.

Final Thoughts

A mother’s influence and impact stretch way beyond childhood. When a child has spent their early years under positive influence and support from their parents, they will grow up with fewer psychological and physical problems.

Children learn to manage and handle their actions and feelings by looking at and understanding what their parents do. You, as a mother, are nurturing and fostering skills in them that will turn them into responsible citizens of society.

You are the most valuable asset your child has. Just like bricks lay the foundation of a building, you, the mother, are the foundation block for your child.  Never, ever doubt your abilities. You possess the power and the beauty to transform your child from a frail baby into a strong individual who can achieve anything they set their minds to!
