Catch The Flying Girl Scout Cookies

Look out! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Girl Scout Cookies! The classic sweet treat offered by the Girl Scouts of America will be expanding availability through the new drone delivery service. The Girl Scouts organization was struggling with a drop in cookie sales because scouts were unable to sell in-person during the pandemic.

One troop in Christiansburg, Virginia, devised a creative solution to help boost sales of the iconic sweet treat and teamed up with a drone-delivery company, Wing. The partnership helped the Girl Scouts deliver 3,000 boxes of cookies by drone, and the troop made history as the first council to deliver cookies by drone.

The drone delivery service helps Girl Scouts access more customers who have less access to buying in-person and gives them the opportunity to make more sales. Wing is a subsidiary of Alphabet (owner of Google and Waymo), working drone deliveries in the Virginia area since 2019 with experience delivering packages for FedEx and more.

Wing emphasizes the use of drone delivery as a more sustainable option compared to traditional delivery methods through reducing waste and excessive resources. This partnership benefits all participants through helping deliver cookies safely and exposing kids to drone technology that could lead to an interest in pursuing a career in STEM.
